Recession OR Another pick-up line

As I left my friend's house one day, a guy stopped his car just outside the house and :

Mr X: Hi, I've been looking for house number 2030 from the past 20 minutes. Can you please help me?

Me: I'm sorry, I dont live here so I dont know.

Mr X: I've looked around everywhere, I just cant find it.

(I look towards my friend's door to see if she is outside so that I could ask her, but she wasn't there)

Me: I'm really sorry, I dont know.

(I open my car door to sit inside)

Mr.X: Excuse me

Me: Yes

Mr X: I know you're a total stranger but can I ask you something?

Me: Ok, go ahead. (skeptical)

Mr X: Do you need a job?

Me: WHAT!

Mr X: Ya, a job.

Me: What do you mean? What kinda job?

Mr X: It's about computers.

Me: No, sorry. I'm doing engineering.

Mr X: Ok, I guess wrong number then. (smiling)

Me: (perplexed)

I haven't yet been able to figure out whether it was the effect of recession that people think anyone will be ready to take a job or was it just another lame pick up line which really did not work well.

I am indeed..... perplexed
